osu! PP Calculator
Estimate the performance points for a score in the osu! standard game mode.
What is a PP Calculator?
A pp calculator is a tool used by players of the rhythm game osu! to estimate the number of performance points (pp) a specific score on a beatmap will award. Performance points are the core metric for ranking players, designed to represent a player’s skill level more accurately than total score. This calculator helps you understand how factors like accuracy, combo, and difficulty mods will impact your final pp gain before you even play the map.
Instead of just grinding maps, you can use a pp calculator to set goals and target specific skills. For instance, you can see how much more pp a 99% accuracy score gives compared to a 97% score, motivating you to focus on precision. Or, you can check the potential of a high-star map with the Double Time mod applied.
The osu! pp calculator Formula and Explanation
The official osu! pp calculation is incredibly complex and involves analyzing the “strain” of different parts of a map. However, we can use a simplified model to create a very effective estimation. The total pp is a combination of three main components: Aim, Speed, and Accuracy.
A simplified formula looks like this:
Total PP = (AimPP^1.1 + SpeedPP^1.1 + AccPP^1.1)^(1/1.1) * ModMultiplier
This shows that the components are combined in a way that heavily rewards having a high value in at least one category. Below are the variables that our pp calculator uses.
| Variable | Meaning | Unit | Typical Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Star Rating (SR) | The computed difficulty of the map. The primary driver of pp. | Stars (★) | 3.0 – 9.0+ |
| Max Combo | The highest combo achieved during the play. | Combo (x) | 100 – 4000+ |
| Accuracy | The precision of hits, measured as a percentage. | Percent (%) | 80.00 – 100.00 |
| Misses | The number of notes completely missed. | Count | 0 – 50+ |
| Mods | Game modifiers that increase difficulty and pp multiplier. | N/A | HD, HR, DT, FL |

Practical Examples
Let’s see how the pp calculator works with two common scenarios.
Example 1: High Accuracy Full Combo
- Inputs: Star Rating: 6.2, Max Combo: 1500, Accuracy: 99.5%, Misses: 0, Mods: HD
- Analysis: A strong performance on a moderately difficult map. The high accuracy and Full Combo (FC) will yield a great accuracy pp value, and the base SR provides solid aim and speed values. The Hidden mod adds a small multiplier.
- Estimated Result: ~450 pp
Example 2: High SR Pass with Misses
- Inputs: Star Rating: 7.8, Max Combo: 1800, Accuracy: 97.0%, Misses: 5, Mods: None
- Analysis: This is a play on a very difficult map where the player didn’t achieve a full combo. The extremely high star rating provides massive potential for aim and speed pp. However, the 5 misses will significantly penalize the final pp value, and the lower accuracy will cap the acc pp.
- Estimated Result: ~520 pp (could have been 700+ with a full combo)
How to Use This pp calculator
Using this calculator is a straightforward process designed to give you quick and accurate estimates.
- Enter Beatmap Stats: Fill in the Star Rating (SR) and the Max Combo for the map you are playing. You can find this on the beatmap’s web page.
- Input Your Performance: Add your target Accuracy percentage and the number of Misses. Be realistic!
- Select Mods: Check any difficulty-increasing mods you plan to use, like HD, HR, or DT. The calculator will automatically apply multipliers.
- Calculate and Interpret: Click the “Calculate PP” button. The tool will show you the Total PP and a breakdown of Aim, Speed, and Accuracy PP. Use this data to see where the points are coming from and what you could improve. To learn more about map difficulty, see our osu! difficulty calculator.
Key Factors That Affect Performance Points
Several key factors influence your final pp score. Mastering them is the key to climbing the ranks.
- Star Rating: This is the most significant factor. Higher SR maps have exponentially higher pp potential.
- Accuracy: Accuracy scaling is exponential. The difference between 98% and 99% is significant, and the difference between 99% and 100% is massive.
- Full Combo (FC): Not breaking combo and achieving the maximum possible combo for the map provides a large, direct bonus to the aim value.
- Misses: Every miss heavily penalizes your potential pp. A play with one miss can be worth hundreds of pp less than a full combo.
- Mods: Mods like Double Time (DT) and Hard Rock (HR) increase SR and apply a multiplier, drastically increasing pp. Hidden (HD) and Flashlight (FL) also add multipliers.
- Map Length: Longer maps with consistent difficulty are weighted more heavily, especially for aim and speed calculations. Our osu! speed guide can help you tackle these maps.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Why is this pp calculator just an estimate?
- The true pp calculation, known as ppv2, analyzes the difficulty (strain) of every single moment of a map, which requires the beatmap file itself. This calculator uses a proven regression model based on the map’s overall stats to provide a highly accurate estimate without needing the file.
- Does combo matter if I don’t get an FC?
- Yes, but mostly in how it relates to misses. A higher combo before breaking means you made it further through the difficult sections, which is indirectly rewarded. However, the number of misses is a more direct penalty.
- How much more pp does Double Time (DT) give?
- DT increases the map’s speed by 50%, which drastically increases the Speed PP component and also raises the base Star Rating. It typically results in a pp gain of 40-60% or more, depending on the map.
- Is Aim or Speed PP more important?
- It depends on the map and your skills. “Jump” maps will have high Aim PP potential, while “stream” maps will have high Speed PP potential. A well-rounded player can gain pp from both map types.
- Why did I lose pp from a new score?
- This happens if your new score on a map has a lower pp value than your previous best score on that same map. Only your single best pp play on any given map is counted.
- What are “farm maps”?
- These are beatmaps that are known to give a disproportionately high amount of pp for their perceived difficulty, often due to patterns that the pp algorithm rewards heavily. You can learn to spot them with our guide to farm maps.
- How does Hard Rock (HR) affect pp?
- HR increases multiple difficulty stats (CS, AR, OD) and flips the map vertically. This makes it harder and increases the SR, leading to a significant pp multiplier.
- What is the best way to gain pp fast?
- Focus on achieving high accuracy (99%+) full combos on maps that are just outside your comfort zone. Check out our guide to ranking up for more strategies.
